The Greater Colorado Council – Centennial District serves the following school districts: Aurora Public School, Bennett School District, Byers School District, Cherry Creek School District, Deer Trail School District, and the Strasburg School District. Fundraising

As we close out 2024, it’s time to start planning for 2025. The first fundraiser of the new year is already upon us. GCC will be once again be offering Camp Cards as a unit fundraiser. you can sign up here:

Cub Scout Program Updates

Four main areas of friction and complexity have been identified by the national committee through leader and parent feedback.

Bobcat: having one set of requirements for 1st through 5th grade is ineffective. The purpose of the Bobcat badge is to introduce Cub Scouts
to the values of Scouting and how you do that should be different based on the grade you are working with. We also see it every year, new Den Leaders do not know what to do if they have Cub Scouts who already earned Bobcat and ones who have not.
Cub Scout Adventures are disjointed. It is not clear why some adventures. The field wants more elective adventures.
The Webelos program causes a lot of confusion as it doesn’t follow the same pattern as the other ranks of being specific to a grade level. If Webelos is designed
to prepare Cub Scouts for Scouts BSA then why does that take two years?
Lastly are awards that are not part of earning a rank. Youth don’t earn them with some having less than a 1% attachment rate these awards do not drive behavior and any content we hope to have is not getting to the Cub Scout.

Insurance Resources

The Greater Colorado Council is proud to be able to provide insurance coverage to its registered members and leaders. Liability insurance protection is afforded to those who donate the use of their facilities for Scouting activities. Certificates of insurance can be provided to the property owner in most cases upon request. All requests must be in writing, and submitted at least 2 weeks in advance using this form.

Cub Scout Cyber Chip is being retired and being replaced with Protect Yourself Rules. See details Here!

Beginning January 1, 2024, minor modifications to the Scouts BSA requirements for the ranks of Scout and Life will take effect. See “Program Updates – Advancement Updates 2024” https://www.scouting.org/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2023/12/SBSA-Advancement-Updates-2024-v2.pdf for more details. Scouts may continue using the existing requirements for the rank on which they are currently working. Scouts must use the new requirements once they advance to their next rank.

Roundtables

Roundtable is for supplemental training, sharing experiences, fellowship, and having fun with other Scout Leaders. The monthly Roundtable meeting provides program ideas, Scout skills, information on policy and updates, upcoming events, training opportunities, structure suggestions, resources and best practices for all Scouting Units.
